You owe an apology to the entire province, Cecil, not just the women’s groups you offended when you allowed your petulance to get in front of your good sense.
Dropping a bill on domestic violence because the other side didn’t vote for your scrap metal bill was ill-conceived. It showed a lack interest in women and children and a lack of attention to important political priorities to say nothing of political optics.
In dumping domestic violence over a scrap metal spat, you have insulted the entire province.
To say you’re sorry to in private letters to the women’s groups who screamed loudest and then to say that it’s a private matter between you and the women’s groups is a further slap to the face of Nova Scotians.
Rather than assuming full responsibility for your error, you have decided to limit and target your apology to the narrowest of constituencies. Of course they deserve a written apology from you, but you represent all Nova Scotians and you owe everyone in this province a heartfelt apology.
By calling this a “private matter” you have shown yourself to a small-minded politician in damage control.
And in so doing this, you’ve done yourself even more damage.
Turns out as well that one of Cecil’s biggest financial supporter in the last elections was the owner of North Metal, a scrap metal dealer in Sydney Mines.
